As we commence a new school year, it has been truly inspiring to witness our students embrace leadership, mentorship, and community. Whether stepping up in the classroom or guiding their younger peers, our students are exemplifying our 2025 theme, Arise and Shine. I wish to share some of the remarkable moments that have occurred in the Primary School this year, showcasing the growth, confidence, and kindness flourishing within our school. I recently had the privilege of stepping back into the classroom to teach our Prep students for the day. As a leader, I deeply value every opportunity to build relationships and engage in the joy of learning. That afternoon, I had the pleasure of accompanying the students to Nature School, where we were joined by our Kindergarten students, who were experiencing this space for the first time. Before heading out, I gathered our Prep students and encouraged them to assume the role of leaders—guiding their younger peers, showing them around, and sharing their love for Nature School. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it was heartwarming to witness their pride in welcoming and leading the younger students. Two weeks ago, we had the honour of holding our Student Representative elections for Primary. Our Year 6 students had the opportunity to present their vision for our Primary school to their Years 3-6 peers, outlining their aspirations for the leadership team. We were incredibly impressed by their confidence and passion. The presentations were of such a high standard that we found it necessary to add additional representative positions. Witnessing the growth of these students over the years has been a profound joy, and we eagerly anticipate seeing them step into their new leadership roles. This week, we conducted our MAP assessments for students in Years 2-10. These assessments provide valuable insights into student learning, enabling teachers to tailor their instruction effectively. For our Year 2 students, this was their first experience with such assessments, and our Year 5/6 students graciously offered their support—guiding them through the login process and assisting with their initial questions. It was wonderful to see the younger students feel at ease with their older peers by their side, reinforcing the strong sense of community and mentorship within our school. Our school theme is Arise and Shine, inspired by Isaiah 60:1 ‘Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.’
At Emmanuel, we deeply value each student—their gifts, abilities, and unique voices. The start of this year has already demonstrated this vision in action, with students leading and encouraging one another, fostering a supportive and thriving school community. As Head of Primary, it is my hope to see every student flourish and grow, excelling as God has intended them to. I look forward to seeing our theme of Arise and Shine take root in all aspects of school life, encouraging students not only to understand its meaning but to embody it in their daily lives.
