Radio-Telescope Visit

Last week both 7/8 Science classes had excursions to the Grote Reber Radio-telescope & museum near Richmond.

We were shown around the control room by Warren, who even tilted the dish right over so we could get a closer look! In the museum, students found answers to questions about Grote Reber’s life and then watched some movies on space in the 3D theatre.

Youth Network of Tasmania

On Friday the 9th of June several of the Emmanuel Student Leaders travelled to Launceston to attend the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) forum. Over 170 students and youth attended from across the state to discuss their views on how they interact online. Various topics, such as education, health, life balance and disability were considered.

Participants were asked three questions about each topic. What they would like to keep? What they would change? What they would create for the future? At the end of the day members of each table group gave a pitch for their creation. The Emmanuel group began to develop an App which could assist with healthy living. They were encouraged to push on with their idea and make it a reality.

Over the last couple of weeks our Emmanuel students have been busy learning different songs in preparation for the concert, including learning to sing in Spanish! see the lyrics here Listen to the orchestra here and sing along!

All the schools joined together to sing along with the orchestra and learned about the different family of instruments such as brass, strings, woodwind and percussion. They were also able to listen to the orchestra play well known pieces such as the William Tell Overture Finale by Rossini listen here.

Year 2 Excursion

David Bloomfield from the State Archives and Lorraine Redway from the Historic Society also joined us on our excursion, along with Julia Roberts, one of our Year 2 mums.

The purpose of our excursion was to bring to life some of the things that we have been learning in class and to enhance our understanding of historic places and people in our local community. You can see more here.
