From the Principal

Welcome back, families, to another exciting term at Emmanuel.

I pray that everyone had a relaxing break and is feeling rejuvenated for more learning and success. Interim reports were sent home electronically at the end of Term 1, and you should have had an opportunity to sit with your child/ren and review their progress for the term. These reports aim to give families an insight into early learning and will set the foundation for the semester.

Parent-teacher interviews will be happening in Week 3; this will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child's teachers and have some more focussed discussions around how we can continue to work to improve student outcomes and engagement in learning. 

With so much happening this coming Term, I want to again thank you for your continued support and engagement with Emmanuel and know that this will be another exciting term in your child's educational journey.

With the weather cooling down, we want to remind our Secondary families that we do have a blue woollen jumper available to be worn with the formal uniform. This should alleviate the need for non-school uniform items to be worn both under and over the white school shirt.

Horizons Program - Flourish

Exciting New Horizons Program Launch of Flourish

Emmanuel Christian School is excited to announce the launch of Flourish, a new pathway within Horizons: Enhanced Personalised Learning, commencing Monday 11 May.

Horizons is our whole-school framework designed to enhance learning opportunities for exceptional learners through targeted support, extension, and future-focused pathways. Within this framework, Flourish has been developed for students requiring extensive support to access the curriculum successfully and confidently.

Grounded in our belief that all students can learn and achieve in their God-given destiny, Flourish provides highly personalised learning experiences designed to meet students at their individual point of need. Each morning, students will participate in targeted literacy and mathematics learning within Learning Enrichment, alongside practical learning experiences that strengthen real-world connections and life skills.

The program has been carefully developed following comprehensive assessment and testing to ensure learning is achievable, engaging, and meaningful. The curriculum has been designed by Mrs Amanda Robertson (Head of Teaching and Learning) and will be delivered with the support of skilled Teacher Aides, who will continue assisting students throughout the school day as they engage in inclusive learning within their regular classes.

A highlight of the term will be a student-led Celebration of Learning, where students will plan, organise, and cater a showcase event for families and carers.

We are thrilled to see our students begin this exciting new chapter as they continue to flourish in their learning journey.

Secondary Update - Art

Term 1 was a productive and creative term in the Visual Art classroom.

Our Year 8 students have been developing their drawing skills with great success. They each created a detailed drawing of their favourite shoe, paying strong attention to contour line, proportions, and utilised colour impressively. Many students showed good control with contour lines and coloured pencils, resulting in some vibrant and highly individual artworks.

In Years 9 and 10, students have also been focusing on drawing, with a particular study of river rocks in a variety of media, including charcoal, graphite, and ink. They also dedicated time to drawing an expressive face that shows joy! Using the grid method to support accurate proportions, they developed a wide tonal range to enhance depth and the impact of expression.

In Term 2, Year 8 Visual Art students will enjoy a shift in focus to painting, initially creating works for their art galleries. They will also work with clay and, if time permits, they will paint a profile portrait. Years 9 and 10 students look forward to developing some watercolour techniques and to explore colour with acrylics on canvas.

Primary Update - Year 2

Our Year 2 class has begun an exciting journey into poetry writing, starting with acrostic and shape poems.

Through poetry, students are developing important literacy skills. By creating their own verses, they play with words, build their vocabulary, and use rhythm and rhyme to strengthen their phonics skills. Whether they are counting syllables or exploring sensory language together, our ‘young poets’ are learning how to use language to express their own unique ideas!

Students are enjoying discovering different poetic structures, and we look forward to continuing this momentum as we explore new forms such as haikus, tankas, and limericks.
