I was reading a site called Studiosity. They gave four hints to starting the term organised:

1. Set up a study routine

2. Set positive, realistic goals for the term

3. Find a good study space

4. Use school planners and calendars

These are excellent points to help our young people with their studies. I would add an important first step before setting up a study routine. Pray! - ask for help and wisdom. It never ceases to amaze me how different things proceed if you pray before you jump in. Similarly, it never ceases to amaze me how often I forget to do this even though I have no doubt I need help beyond my resources.

At Emmanuel, we can encourage good study habits by pointing out wise advice, but we can dig deeper into life-changing processes built on prayer.

Welcome back to school and term two. Please keep in contact with your children's teacher(s) as we work together to help our young people thrive. I did three enrolment interviews today, and it was a joy to share how wonderful teachers are and what a great school we have.

Building Developments

Over the next three weeks, we should see the Upper Primary block renovation completed as well as the Science Room upgrade. You can see some more progress via our Facebook Page.

School Surveys

Many of you may remember the Christian Education National Satisfaction Surveys we have done with parents, staff and some students. The Christian Schools Tasmania Executive, of which I am a part, has investigated a new survey tool called the Community Health Audit by a company called Endeavour Community Relations and Development. These will be coming out on Monday.

The first difference you will notice is that it is a paper-based survey. Information and envelopes for confidential return to Endeavour will be provided.

I am looking forward to seeing the results, and I continue to be grateful for the opportunities to engage with our school community to get feedback and see our school grow.

Welcome back to Term 2 at Emmanuel Christian School primary. This promises to be a full term with lots going on.

We have our Primary Athletics Carnival in week 2 on Thursday 6 June. Week 3 will see the return of NAPLAN testing for Year 3 and 5. We have a Science Fair visit in week 5 and then in week 6 we are very excited to announce the return of Grandparents Day. We will have to run it slightly differently, with no classroom visits, but a performance and morning tea is guaranteed! The date for this is Monday 31 June, so let your grandparents know they’re invited!

The other exciting development will be the return to Primary Block for the Primary classes. We are hoping this will be very soon and the teachers have had a fun time ordering new furniture.

There will also be parent teacher interviews later in the Term, which are a wonderful time to get together with your child’s teacher and celebrate successes and make plans together for the future. They say that one strong predictor of a child’s future success is the involvement of parents in their education. Let’s build them strong and successful together. Know you are welcome to come and chat to us anytime.

Next week is our first Book Fair for 2021 running 3 - 7 May in our School Library. Our opening hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - 8.30am to 3.30pm with extended hours on Thursday - 9.00am - 6.00pm to provide parents opportunity to come and browse in the evening.

Students have also been invited to enter a competition to win book vouchers.

• Kinder - Year 2  a colouring in competition.

• Year 3 - 6 to write a short story or short graphic novel.

• Year 7 - 10 to design a book cover or write a short story.

The Senior Secondary Parent Information presentation is for parents of future Year 11-12 students at Calvin in 2022 and 2023. This evening is designed to provide parents of Emmanuel Year 10 students with important information about what they need to know to best support their child as they move into the final years of their secondary schooling life.

Senior Secondary Subject Expo

Year 10 students from Emmanuel and Calvin Christian School will participate in a Senior Secondary Subject Student Expo Thursday, 6 May. The Expo will take place in the Calvin Library and Resource Centre. Students will have the opportunity to talk to teachers about possible subject choices for Years 11 & 12. Carly Brouwer, Calvin’s Pathways Coordinator, will be available to discuss possible subject options and the Calvin Deputy Principal Bonny Moroni will be available to answer questions about TCE and TASC.

The Calvin Senior Secondary handbook with all the 2022 subjects will available next week and released to Year 10 parents and students via email and the Calvin website. Stay tuned!

An important evening for all parents and students in Years 5 and 6 who are considering Emmanuel Secondary in 2022 / 2023. Tickets are FREE but essential via our Facebook Event or Eventbrite.

There will be short informative presentations from members of the Emmanuel Leadership Team, and an engaging student question and answer interview panel. Hot dinner will be provided by a local food van in the warm glow of our fire pits.

Should you wish there will be short break-out sessions covering Creative Arts and Technology, Our Academic Program, Christian Education, and Learning Support with time to ask questions.
