Leaving with ThankfulnessAs staff, every week we have a gratitude morning during which we pour thankfulness for all the goodness that surrounds us. As I prepared to say farewell, I found myself reflecting on the productive and positive journey we have been on as a collective, and even more on the gratitude I feel from having been part of this awesome community. What we have tried to embed as our staff culture is that being grateful is not just a feeling – it is a way of being, seeing, and living. We are so blessed at Emmanuel, a beautiful campus, pleasant weather (most of the time), and close community connections. I am truly blessed – by your support, collaboration, conversations, and shared purpose and much more, all of which have shaped me in many ways I will carry forward for years to come. Through gratitude we have been grounded as a community. We have been on a journey which, at times, may have been challenging, overwhelming yet uplifting and gratitude steadied us. I was grateful for our team, families, students, other stakeholders and for the challenges, and we were able to lead from such abundance instead of fear. I am grateful for each one of you, your resilience, your candour, your creativity and your willingness to grow with me. I am confident of this one thing: that all the progress we have made together was not born out of pressure but from a community that cared and loved. In other nations, days have been set aside for thanksgiving, but in our school, gratitude is the currency of our livelihood. I am grateful that our community has grown in modelling connection out of compassion. We have built trust, supported each other, created spaces for real conversation and connection. Thank you for being a community that brings all along and leaves no one behind. These relationships are the true legacy of the work we have done. This season has been a reflective one for me as I consistently asked myself -What impact am I making? What is mine to carry? What is mine to release? These are the reflective questions I asked myself especially as seasons changed to sharpen my focus and introspect. For me these where not leadership questions but life questions – which I gratefully share with you and encourage you to continue asking them. I pray that as you answer these and live with gratitude, your direction will become clearer. And so, as I close this chapter and walk off the Emmanuel stage, I want you to know that I leave grateful. Grateful for the trust you offered, the growth we shared, the challenges we navigated, and the community we built together. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey and for being part of mine. I carry our shared work with deep appreciation – and I believe the best is ahead for each of you, as it is for me. May God’s Word guide you as it has guided me, being mindful to ‘Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
