Reading is Life!This term, we have explored the world of non-fiction through writing information reports on Australian animals. Students have discovered features such as glossaries, indexes and contents pages, and have written factual reports on koalas, kangaroos and cockatoos. They have loved combining this work with directed drawings to illustrate their reports. In Mathematics, our focus has been on strengthening number sense. We have explored place value and vertical algorithms, while also consolidating patterns in number bonds and doubles. Using both our digital platform, IXL, and hands-on materials, students have represented fractions, symmetry, groups, and data in real-world contexts. In HASS, we have examined how the passage of time shapes daily life. In Science, we have investigated the power of forces, especially push, pull and gravity. Meanwhile, in Health and PE we have been preparing with energy and enthusiasm for our Athletics Carnival. Most importantly, we continue learning how to be good friends. Year 1 is a key stage of moral development, as students discover how to tell the truth, show kindness, and extend grace and forgiveness. As a Christian school, we are committed to nurturing the whole child, ensuring that every student is seen, known and valued. Together, we support the flourishing of each one.
